Find a word from the letters you know
Playing a word guessing game and stuck on the last few guesses? Type each word you've tried, then tap its tiles to copy the colors the game showed you. The finder keeps only the words that agree with every clue, with the most common words first, so the likely answers are easy to spot.
What the colors mean
- Green: the letter is in the word, in this exact spot.
- Orange: the letter is in the word, but somewhere else.
- Gray: the letter isn't in the word. If the same letter is also green or orange in that guess, the word has exactly that many of it.
These are the colors of our own Daily Word. Other games use yellow instead of orange, which works the same way.
Search by pattern
You can also look up words without a game. Type ? for every letter you don't know: ST??? lists five-letter words that start with ST, and ??A?E finds words like SHAKE or GRADE. Letters next to a ? start out green; tap them to change their color.
From 4 to 8 letters
Five letters is the classic size, but the finder works for any length from four to eight. Pick one above the guesses. Want to put your own guessing to the test? Play Daily Word Unlimited, with new words of four to eight letters whenever you like.

Does the finder know today's answer?
No. It knows every word of the length you chose and keeps the ones that fit your clues. The fewer words left, the closer you are.
Which words are highlighted?
Common everyday words. Answers to guessing games are usually common words, so they're the best ones to try first. Tap any word to add it as your next guess.
Are my guesses saved?
Only in your browser, so they're still there if you reload the page. Use Start over to clear them.
